Whitney on why she runs:

“I love running because it allows me to feel and experience life more dramatically. I break this down into running's effect on my physical and emotional states, as well as its role in my personal growth. Whether a smooth/effortless run or painful/grinding workout, I feel all of it so powerfully. Because running is so active and intentional, while doing it I have to be in tune with my body and physically engage to such a high degree. Running is an emotional battlefield. Highs and lows. And mediocrity. Running well means joy and triumph and pride and self-confidence. Running helps me see my progress as a person. It tries my courage, patience, responsibility, determination, discipline, commitment, ambition, and sense of initiative; the list of qualities is endless.”
